Now is the time of the year when the transition between fall sports are coming to an end at SMSU and winter sports are beginning. I personally have mixed feelings because I will miss tailgating, screaming from the R.E.C. bleachers, and filling the P.E. Gym. On the other hand though, I am looking forward to Mustang Maniacs and filling up the R/A Gym.
The soccer team, under new head coach TJ Buchholz this season, did very well this year compared to the past few years. The football team had their last home game of the season this past Saturday against University of Minnesota, Mankato. Although we lost, it was still a fun game to go cheer at and watch the seniors on their home turf for the last time.
Also this past weekend, was the last two home volleyball games. For Saturday’s game, the theme was “Red Out”. Students were encouraged to wear red to the game in honor of Heart Disease awareness. The first 400 fans received a free t-shirt dedicated to the night which is always great when you’re in college! It was really fun to see the whole gym lit up with red, it was also really to see the Mustangs in red jerseys. In my opinion, the red out game was a success and will be annual occurrence.
Although this time of the year means the end of fall sports, I am super pumped to start attending winter sports games, especially men’s basketball! They have an exhibition game coming up this week and I can’t wait to go and see what this season’s team looks like!
